Born and raised in Cottontown, Tennessee, Allison Pate uses clay as her medium. She has always been interested in the arts, and began pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramics at Tennessee Tech University’s Appalachian Center for Craft under the instruction of Vince Pitelka. This is where she received her BFA in 2017. Her work focuses on making utilitarian wares inspired by experiences growing up with close ties to nature. She uses terracotta clay with energetic surface decoration and fires her work to cone-3 in a salt kiln.

Allison is interested in teaching children the bounties of clay and taught in the university’s outreach program. She is currently working on plans on pursing teaching opportunities and being a practicing studio artist where she resides outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Allison is currently represented in Appalachian Center for Crafts’ Gallery in Smithville, Tennessee.
